Learning Log
16th March- Wrote biography on Oodgeroo Noonuccal
I found this section very interesting as she lived through the era of the White Australia Policy and suffered much discrimination as a result. There were many great poems to choose from
19th March- Wrote biography on Kevin Gilbert
I also found this very interesting but a bit disturbing as in 1957 Kevin was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife. Despite this I admired Kevin for teaching himself to read and write in prison and becoming a well known poet, activist and playwright. This section was hard to write because there was so much information to add and I had to pick out the relevant and most interesting parts of his life.
20th March- Added key aspects to Kevin and Oodgeroo biographies of their time in which they lived
This section I found difficult because I had to look at all the dates within their life times, summarise the information and then add this to the biographies - and finally make it relevant to what Oodgerroo and Kevin focused on in their protests.
21st March- Wrote on both poets how the context is reflected in the poems and TEEL paragraphs
This section took a while to write because in the past I have to struggled with write TEEL paragraphs and in this project i found it hard to summarise each technique in the paragraph but at the end wrote simple sentences and work through it bit by bit.
Overall reflection:
Overall this project about Aboriginal protest poetry was very interesting and enjoyable to learn and research about because it made me aware to find poetic techniques, writing TEEL paragraphs and biographies. Aboriginal protest poetry was a good subject to learn about as it taught me about the ‘Aboriginal Struggle’ and Australian History. The learning log was a good way to help summarise each persons work efforts and in the future I would like to complete another assignment similar to this one.
